Volcano promises an explosive dining experience, and it delivers. The food, a symphony of flavors and textures, left me craving more. From the first bite to the last, each dish was a testament to culinary mastery. While the service was friendly and efficient, it didn't quite match the exceptional quality of the food. However, the self-serve utensils and water added a unique touch to the dining experience, allowing for a more personalized approach. Overall, Volcano is a must-visit for anyone looking to ignite their taste buds. With its delectable cuisine and charming ambiance, it's no wonder this restaurant is a local favorite.
Volcano is a small and very casual restaurant. You order your food at the counter, and they bring out the food in togo containers. We ordered the Burger Steak and the Chicken Curry. The Burger Steak resembles a meatloaf in taste and texture. The red sauce on top of it is ketchup. The chicken curry was tasty and flavorful. The food was fresh and hot. Also, the cashier was friendly and helpful.
Quick meal at Volcano at cousin's request all the way to Richmond, San Francisco 0.o. Worth it!!! Curry was good along with the breaded katsu. Didn't get any drinks as there are better options elsewhere on Geary. Quick service, quick pick up. Very casual casual flip flop ok type of place. Parking was hideous.
Upon stepping into Volcano Curry on a vibrant Saturday evening around 6 pm, the ambiance was lively, with a palpable buzz of satisfied diners. The restaurant was abuzz, and we decided to try the tonkatsu curry rice. The dish was a triumph in flavors. The tonkatsu, perfectly breaded and fried to a golden crisp, sat atop a generous serving of flavorful curry rice. The curry was rich, aromatic, and well-balanced, showcasing the chef's skill in blending spices. Each bite was a delightful mix of savory and slightly sweet notes. One notable aspect was the impeccable quality of the ingredients. The rice was cooked to perfection, and the tonkatsu maintained its crispy exterior while remaining tender on the inside. The portion size was ample, offering a satisfying and filling dining experience. What pleasantly surprised us was the reasonable pricing despite the exceptional food quality. It's not every day you find a place where the balance between taste and cost aligns so well. The value for money made the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant's popularity was evident, with a full house of patrons enjoying their meals. Furthermore, the attention to detail in Volcano Curry's presentation was noteworthy. Each dish seemed meticulously crafted, showcasing the chef's dedication to both taste and aesthetics. The vibrant colors and enticing aromas created an inviting visual and olfactory feast. As we enjoyed our meal, we couldn't help but notice the diverse crowd, a testament to the restaurant's broad appeal. Families, couples, and friends all seemed to find something to relish on the menu. The atmosphere was convivial, making it a suitable spot for various occasions, whether it be a casual dinner or a celebratory gathering. The staff's efficiency added to the positive experience. Despite the bustling activity, our orders arrived promptly, and the servers were friendly and accommodating. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to provide recommendations demonstrated a commitment to customer satisfaction. In addition to the tonkatsu curry rice, the menu boasted a variety of other tempting options, leaving us intrigued and eager to return for future culinary explorations. The fusion of traditional Japanese flavors with a modern twist was evident in the diverse menu offerings, providing diners with a range of choices to suit different tastes. In conclusion, Volcano Curry not only delivered on the promise of delectable Japanese curry but also created an overall dining experience that exceeded expectations. Whether you're a curry enthusiast or simply seeking a memorable meal in San Francisco, this restaurant is a gem worth discovering. Our Saturday night at Volcano Curry was undoubtedly a flavorful journey, leaving us with a craving to return for more.
Review based on takeout but I have eaten here many times over the past 12 years living in SF! This place is chill and no fuss kind of spot. Order at the counter, they bring out your food when it's ready and afterwards you bus your own table. * Pork Katsu Curry: Breaded & fried pork cutlet *w/ rice, carrots, & potatoes. (curry contains wheat, peanuts, & dairy) $15.50 w/ Croquette $1.75 and Fukujin Pickles $1.95 * Chicken Katsu Curry: Breaded & fried chicken cutlet *w/ rice, carrots, & potatoes. (curry contains wheat, peanuts, & dairy) $15.50 (not pictured) My bf and i both got "hot" for our curry sauce but we got one hot and one medium in our order. Both delicious and i let my bf have the hot one and i took the medium. I have a pretty good tolerance for spicy but man oh man was the medium fire today! I tried my bfs hot and thought it was mild. Haha my bf has gotten volcano in the past and has lived to tell the tale! One of our favorite spots in the city and we don't live far from here!
We can hear on another rainy night in SF. Since it was cold and wet outside, we figured something hot might be a good change. And since this place was named volcano we figured this had better be hot. :) But because we were afraid it may be a bit too hot we choose to get medium spicy which actually I think seems a bit mild. I think I would choose @ least one level higher next time. We ordered my fav tonkatsu curry. My wife got the beef curry. The good thing about the beef curry was it has large chunks of meat instead of the usual shabu shabu thin slices of beef. The only bad is that the beef was hard to chew. So, if you don't have good teeth, then I wouldn't recommend the beef curry. The tonkatsu curry on the other hand was good! Also I feel that they give more curry sauce in here compared to other Japanese curry restaurants that I've been to. But maybe the bad part about that is that it is much easier to finish all the rice which could be a bad thing if you wanted to limit your carb intake. I was able to finish the whole box in one go with no leftover. But then again I only had breakfast this particular morning and didn't really have any lunch. I think I would definitely come back again in the future. But I would up the spice one more beyond medium. :)
Casual dining and street parking can be challenging. You order first, then take a seat. There are so many written signs like how to separate your trash, no card playing allowed, how to place an order online, etc. Lowkey over stimulating. Menu offers great variety, and the price is reasonable. You can pick the level of spice too. I ordered the katsu sandwich, which was stacked high with 2 pieces of katsu and 3 slices bread. It was definitely not something you could just pick up and bite. I ended up eating it in halves. So the second half basically just didn't have a bread top. It still was tasty. The katsu was moist and wasn't overly breaded. The aioli helped add flavor to the dish, too. The beef curry was good, but the beef was a little too chewy for my liking. It's a great quick meal. I'd definitely come back to get a curry plate. Disposing of your trash may be kind of confusing as they have a separate bin for everything.
Volcano curry is the perfect place for a comfort meal. Very reasonably priced it comes with a huge portion of rice and curry. The chicken katsu was definitely one of the best i've had. It was so crispy and juicy on the inside with so much flavor. The potato croquette which I added on the side was also the perfect addition. I would recommend getting mild which makes the sweetness of the curry come out better. It does get pretty busy at lunch so you might need to wait a bit for your curry but it's 100% worth it. Definitely coming back again.
Great easy place to grab a bite! Very very casual, most people just order takeout, and I ordered the Pork Katsu Curry with Hot spicyness (the perfect enojyable level for me) It was really great!! Some of the best katsu/curry I've had in the bay for about $15!
